About STEM4Kids

We have run robotics and coding camps in the South Bay since 2016, and 5,000+ campers have come through our rooms.

What a camp day is actually like

Check-in is 9:00–9:15 AM. The morning is the main build or project — Lego Spike, Vex IQ, a Python game — in a group of no more than 14. Lunch and outdoor time in the middle. The afternoon is a continuation of the morning's project, so a child finishes the week with something they made and can take home or show you.

Pickup is 4:00, or up to 6:00 if you have booked extended care. We release children only to the adults on your pickup list, and we check photo ID.

Who's teaching

We hire instructors for the subject they’ll teach: computer science students for our coding camps, engineering and robotics students for robotics, working artists — portfolio reviewed — for art. They come from universities across the country. Every instructor is background-checked and trained by us before camp starts, both on the curriculum and on running a camp day with children. One instructor for every 14 campers.

Supervision

Children are supervised at all times, including outdoor recess in the courtyard or on the lawn. Safety is the first priority of every camp day.

What we are not

We are not a drop-off daycare with a computer in the corner, and we are not an academic enrichment program. Children build things. Some weeks that produces a working robot and some weeks it produces a robot that mostly works, which is closer to how engineering actually goes.

We also do not run camps we cannot staff properly. If a week does not have the right instructors, we cancel it and refund in full rather than run it thin.

What if my child doesn't like it?

In the first day or two the instructor gets to know how your child is finding the camp. If it isn’t the right fit, we’ll suggest a switch — a different subject, or a camp better matched to their level. If your child simply isn’t enjoying it, we’ll refund the weeks they don’t attend, prorated. Email us and we’ll sort it out.
